Travel insurance for Turkey: what to check for a resort holiday

Food upsets at all-inclusive hotels, parasailing, jeep safaris and private clinics: which policy terms matter in Turkey.

Most tourists in Turkey head for the coast: Antalya, Alanya, Bodrum, Marmaris. Doctor visits there are usually quite ordinary: stomach upsets after a change of diet, sunburn, injuries at the pool and water slides, ear infections. Treatment in private clinics that work with foreigners costs more than a regular clinic at home, so you need a policy before you leave, not just in case.

Medical costs and calling the insurer

Check the treatment limit and whether the insurer pays the clinic directly. Private clinics often ask for a guarantee letter or a deposit. Keep the 24-hour assistance number and your policy number on your phone and call before you agree to expensive procedures, or the refund may be reduced.

Water and active entertainment

Parasailing, banana boats, jet skis, diving, jeep safaris and quad bikes are popular, but a standard policy often does not cover them or requires a separate option. Renting a car or quad bike without a suitable licence is the most common reason for refusal. If you plan activities, look for them in the terms in advance, not after an accident.

What else to check

Dates (the policy must also cover your return day), the deductible, exclusions for chronic conditions and trip cancellation. This is general information, not a recommendation of a company. Below is a partner insurance card (advertising): compare terms, not only price.
