Getting to Georgia: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi and low-cost carriers

Which of the three airports to pick, when Kutaisi pays off and how to plan arriving in one city and leaving from another.

Georgia has three main international airports: Tbilisi (TBS), Kutaisi (KUT) and Batumi (BUS). Tbilisi receives the most flights. Kutaisi is in the west, and many inexpensive airlines fly exactly there, while Batumi suits the sea and the western coast. The choice of airport shapes your route around the country, so start with it.

When Kutaisi pays off

Tickets to Kutaisi from low-cost carriers are sometimes noticeably cheaper, but from there it is a few hours to Tbilisi by minibus, train or taxi, and that cost has to be added to the price. Compare the total cost of the trip, including the road, baggage and time, not only the ticket price.

Arriving in one city, leaving from another

Georgia is small, and the route "arrive in Tbilisi, leave from Batumi or Kutaisi" is often more convenient than returning the same way. In the search choose an open-jaw route: the price is sometimes no higher than two separate tickets. If the legs are bought separately and the first flight is late, the second airline owes you nothing, so allow a time margin.

Before you buy

Entry rules depend on citizenship: many countries have a visa-free regime for a set period, but the terms must be checked on official government sites. Below is a partner flight card (advertising), and our converter makes it easy to work out the total costs.
