Travel insurance for Egypt: diving, heat and private clinics

Stomach infections, heatstroke, quad bikes, snorkelling and diving: which policy terms matter on the Red Sea resorts.

In Egypt tourists most often see a doctor for stomach upsets after a change of food and water, sunburn and heatstroke, injuries on excursions and cuts from coral. Care in the private clinics of resort towns is paid and not cheap for foreigners, so you need a policy in advance. Do not expect a minor case to cost pennies: clinics often work on prepayment.

Limit and contact with the insurer

Check the medical expenses limit and whether the insurer pays the clinic directly or reimburses later. Keep the 24-hour assistance number on your phone and call before serious treatment. Keep receipts, discharge notes and medical documents: without them a refund is impossible.

Diving, snorkelling and excursions

The Red Sea draws divers, but standard insurance usually does not cover diving: you need a separate option, and often proof of qualification and a depth limit. Quad bikes, camels and desert jeep safaris are also often excluded or cost extra. Check the exact wording in advance.

What else to check

Dates, the deductible, exclusions for chronic conditions and trip cancellation. This is general information, not a recommendation of a company. Below is a partner insurance card (advertising): compare terms, not only price.
