Travel insurance for Bali: scooters, surfing and private clinics

Why claims in Bali are refused most often, which activities to check in the policy and why you need evacuation cover.

In Bali many people get around on rented scooters, surf, dive and hike volcanoes. These are everyday island activities, but each has its own terms in an insurance policy, and this is where refusals most often arise.

Scooters

Insurance usually covers scooter injuries only if you hold a valid licence for the right category, one suitable for international use. Without it even a minor accident can turn into a bill you pay yourself. Check the terms before you buy the policy and before you rent.

Activities and medical care

Surfing, diving, trekking and other activities often need a separate policy option or a higher tariff. Help in private clinics for foreigners is expensive, and serious cases may require evacuation to another island or country, so make sure transport is covered and that the insurer has a 24-hour line.

Before you pay

Check the dates (with a margin for a delayed departure), the deductible, exclusions for chronic conditions and the expense limit. This is general information, not a recommendation of a company. Below is a partner insurance card (advertising): compare terms, not only price.
